DRONACHARYA GROUP OF INSTITUTIONS, GREATER NOIDA
REPORT ON WORKSHOP ON VIRTUAL LAB – 24 Aug 15
Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida organized a Workshop on ‘Virtual Labs' on 24 Aug 15. The objective of the workshop was to create awareness of Virtual Labs among first year students and faculty members. Our 130 first year students (CSE/CSIT/IT-45, ME-38, Civil-38 and ECE-9) and 8 faculty members attended the workshop. One faculty member, Mr. K. P. Singh from ITS, Greater Noida also attended the workshop. Mr. T. T. Das, Outreach-In –Charge, Mr. Bhairab Patra, CSE/IT V-Lab Mentor, Mr. Nitin Agarwal, ECE/EEE V-Lab Mentor and Mr. Guru Dutt Sharma, Physical Sciences Lab Mentor from Bharti Telecom Center, IIT Delhi were the Resource persons for the workshop.
The event began with the floral welcome of the resource persons by Prof. (Dr.) S.K. Bagga, Director, DGI, Greater Noida. The director appraised the students regarding the advantages and usefulness of virtual labs. He motivated the students to utilize the virtual lab facility. This was followed by a presentation by Prof. (Dr.) H. S. Dua who explained the various aspects of utilization of virtual labs by the students.
The first Technical Session began with the presentation and brief overview of National impact of Virtual Lab on students and teachers by Mr. T. T. Das of IIT Delhi. He also discussed the daily usage and benefits of Virtual Labs. He explained the role and importance of Virtual Labs in bridging the gap between the typical syllabi of Technical Universities and existing Labs.
The next speaker, Mr. Bhairab, Mr. Guru Dutt & Mr. Nitin Agarwal demonstrated the experiment of Chemical and Physical Science like Acid Base Titration and photo Electric Effect for the students of 1st year CSE/IT and EEE/ECE. He also discussed the uses of Virtual lab in their Courses.
In the post lunch session, the same experiments were demonstrated for ME/CE 1st year students also. After sessions in the seminar hall, students were given hands on practice in various computer labs. Feedback on the Vlab experiments executed by the students themselves was submitted by them online.
The workshop came to an end with presentation of memento to the resource persons by honorable Director, Prof. (Dr.) S.K. Bagga.
Overall, the workshop has been quite fruitful for our first year students as it gave them an exposure to adopt the Vlab experimentation technique so as to learn the basics at the own pace by doing these experiments from anywhere and anytime.
